Regular teeth cleanings and dental checkups help prevent cavities and gum disease, and they let us catch small problems early, when they’re easiest to treat or reverse. What to Expect at Your Dental Checkup and Cleaning

  • We will discuss your oral history and health and one of our dental hygienists will clean your teeth removing plaque and tartar, take measurements, floss, and gently polish your teeth.
  • Taking a tour of your mouth with photos helps us explain and show you things you might not be able to see.
  • The doctor will perform a comprehensive oral exam to check the health of your mouth, discuss your oral health and answer any questions you may have or address priorities of yours and make recommendations.
  • Finally, we include Oral Cancer screenings with all regular preventive appointments, it is our standard of care.

How Often Should You Have Your Teeth Cleaned?

  • Most patients do best with a professional cleaning and checkup every six months. If you’re prone to gum disease or tartar build-up, your hygienist may recommend more frequent visits. We’ll set a schedule that fits your mouth, not a one-size-fits-all calendar.

She will work as quickly as possible and angle the chair so there is little pressure on my back. She also provides a warming neck wrap. Beth was my hygentist today. She welcomed me with a heated pad for the back of my neck and covered my shirt with a soft towel before adding the splash protection. She was gentle and thorough using a water pick prior to using the metal pick. This was to clear any bacteria first. We had a nice... conversation. Beth was born in Iowa but she is much too ladylike to live on a farm. Her husband is an insurance unwriter from Memphis. They have 2 boys ages 8 and 10. They left Kansas City to move closer to their favorite vacation place - Pawleys Is. And some of their family followed. Beth has hazel eyes that as she says looks like a muddy river.
