HOW TO GET THE SMILE OF YOUR DREAMS WITH VENEERS

Pro’s & Con’s of Dental Veneers

Our smile is often the first thing people will notice. So, what happens if you are unhappy with your teeth? Perhaps they are discolored? Chipped? Stained? Or you have gaps you’d like to fix?

Veneers are a great option for any of these physical or esthetic issues and at Expertise Dental. They can be a very conservative way to create a beautiful smile.

If you are considering this treatment, then take a look at our Veneers Pros and Cons list:

PRO’s

  1. Whiten your smile easily – although teeth whitening is an option to whiten your smile if they are stained or discolored, they can often become stained again. Porcelain veneers however are mostly stain resistant and will give you an instant brighter whiter smile. No need to worry about what you eat or drink.
  2. Correct cosmetic issues – veneers are attached to the front surfaces of your teeth, they can camouflage imperfections such as chips, cracks, misshapen teeth, gaps, staining, pointy teeth or small teeth. They are durable and less invasive than crowns or implants.
  3. Replacement for damaged enamel – although tooth enamel is tough it isn’t indestructible. Enamel can be eroded by overzealous brushing or acidic foods and drinks. It does not regenerate so veneers can be an excellent treatment for teeth with such erosion and will protect them at the same time as looking fantastic.
  4. Realistic appearance – one of the main reasons for the popularity of veneers is because the material used has similar properties to tooth enamel, veneers appear natural and realistic while enabling you to choose the shade you’d like. Our veneers are crafted by Master ceramists. Lab technicians who have the highest credentials and do the very best work. They will work hand and hand with your doctor to create your very own customized beautiful smile.
  5. Durability – veneers are relatively long lasting – depending on your at home habits. We will build you a smile that lasts. At Expertise Dental we only use the finest materials available to create our dental restorations. Our goal is a superior look, fit, and feel.

CON’s

  1. It’s irreversible – porcelain veneers are bonded in place so there’s no going back once veneers are placed so you need to be certain this is your best option. So do your research and we are here to help and advise in anyway.
  2. Increased sensitivity – some, although not everyone, can experience an increase in tooth sensitivity due to the change in enamel for bonding. In the first few days you may feel sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures although this usually goes away. It can also be managed with the right products.
  3. Pricing – costs vary depending on the type of veneers and the number of teeth you would like restored. Cost is always a consideration and unfortunately, most insurance plans consider veneers to be cosmetic and not a covered procedure.
  4. Fragility – the veneers we provide are tough and excellent quality, however that does not mean they are indestructible they can chip or break – so it’s best to avoid very hard foods and using your teeth as tools. Wearing your occlusal guard will help protect them. Repair or replacement can be costly.
  5. Not everyone is a candidate – those with tooth decay, severely worn enamel, bruxism or gum disease for example may not be suitable candidates for veneers. However, we can advise during a comprehensive dental exam at our Charleston dental office to ensure that veneers are in fact the most suitable option for you.
